Why First Bead exists
About First Bead
First Bead is an independent English-language guide for adults learning to weld in a home garage, barn or small workshop.

The first question is not which welder has the most amps
Most first-time buyers start with a model list and later discover that the garage circuit, steel thickness or missing gas setup decides the purchase. First Bead reverses that order. We begin with the outlet and the work, then narrow the machine.
That makes the site less useful as a catalog and more useful as a decision filter. A machine can be well made and still be a poor first purchase for your garage.
What independent means here
Commercial relationships do not decide the recommendation. A review is labelled as a desk review unless the exact machine has been tested. We do not invent prices, ratings, hands-on feel, discount codes or project outcomes.
Some outbound purchase links may become commission links when partner programs are active. The affiliate disclosure explains the model, and the editorial method explains how evidence is separated from presentation.
The editorial boundary
First Bead explains selection constraints and general safety concepts. It does not provide household wiring instructions, certify a welding procedure or approve a structural joint.
Have a licensed electrician verify your panel and install any new circuit. Follow the exact welder manual and seek qualified instruction before work that could injure someone if a weld fails.
